Are there security patrols in the Lakes of Muirfield?
No. While the RCMP, the Alberta Sheriffs, and County Peace Officers routinely drive through the neighborhood on a regular basis, we have no security force of our own. Our camera network, resident security cameras and our own vigilance works very well. Neighbors take care of neighbors in the Lakes of Muirfield, and while you won’t find many places more friendly, it doesn’t mean we don’t keep an eye out for those with criminal intentions.
Who do I contact if my meter is broken?
Electric meters are the responsibility of Fortis Alberta. If you contact your retailer (i.e., Epcor, Enmax, etc.), they will provide the proper contact info.
Gas meters are the responsibility of your provider, Rosebud Gas Co-op or Rockyview Gas Co-op. See Partners & Utilities for contact info.
GOLF COURSE
Is a Golf Membership included with Home Purchase?
No. Muirfield Lakes Golf Course is privately owned and operated by RavGolf Inc. Membership and green fee information may be found here.
I’ve never lived beside a golf course before, what about damage from errant balls?
Living beside a golf course has its pros and cons, and while the former outweigh the latter by a healthy margin, (having a backyard looking out on green space, lovely views, well-maintained green space, a wide array of birds, waterfowl, and other wildlife, etc makes up for the odd boisterous foursome that goes by) errant balls do find their way into resident’s backyards and in some cases front yards on rare occasions (depending on which hole you reside). They have been known to cause damage. The Golf Course, although not responsible for the damage, has been very diligent in re-locating tee boxes and other course features to mitigate stray shots but it still happens from time to time.
Can Residents Go for a Stroll on The Golf Course Lands?
No. During golf season it is not safe. It is private property, and no one has permission to be on the golf course grounds unless they have paid the green fee and are playing a round of golf.
During colder, snow covered (emphasis on snow covered – golfers still play on frigid days if the course is open and the golf ball is even harder when frozen) Golf Course Ownership has allowed residents to stroll on the cart paths, but only on the cart paths. Once the snow flies, please await an announcement from Ownership that it is allowed. And please, stay off the greens and out of the bunkers.
If walking a dog, it must be on a leash, and you must clean up after it.
This is strictly a courtesy offered by the Golf Course ownership and if abused, they have every right to forbid trespassing. Please be courteous and respectful.
Do Residents Receive a Discount at the Golf Course?
Although there are limited time promotions throughout the season for LOM residents, there are no set discounts. The Golf Course maintains very affordable green fees, probably the most economical for a course in this condition in all of southern Alberta and offers a daily special at the restaurant during the golf season.
If there is damage, is the golf course responsible?
No, the golfer who took the shot is responsible. All Golf Canada members are insured for any damage they cause, but unfortunately, not every golfer bothers with the membership each year.
HOUSEHOLD HINTS
Help! My Hot Water Heater or Furnace Are Not Working, and It's Winter
Depending on wind direction, snowfall and very cold temperatures (typically -20 or below, but heavy snow and wind can cause it in -10 to -20 weather as well), the exhaust or intake vents at the side of your home may get clogged with snow or frost and without that airflow, today's high efficiency devices will stop operating as a safety feature so deadly carbon monoxide does not build up. Some hot water heaters have a lighted panel on them and the position of the lights will indicate the problem. (There is a sticker with a legend of what those lights mean on the side of the unit). Most furnaces on the other hand will attempt to start, you will hear the fan, but the burners will not ignite, so the furnace shuts down, only to repeat the process five to ten minutes or less later.
In both cases, if a critter guard is in place inside the mouth of the vent pipe - a screen to keep birds and rodents out, - remove it by gently pulling it out. Use a 14" - 18" bottle brush, or a wire coat hangar with hook intact but unwound for length and insert it in the vents (the 3 1/2" plastic pipes exiting the outside wall on the furnace and hot water side of the house). Clear the offending snow from inside the vent pipe until you hear the rush of air entering or exhausting.
The furnace will start within a minute or so. Depending on your hot water heater, it may start automatically, or the reset button usually located on top of the unit must be depressed. On the water heaters with the indicator panel, the lights should go out.

HISTORY
Nearly two decades have passed since the approved Entitlement Process allowed for the phased development of more than 700 residences, a resort style golf course, and a small commercial component, north of the existing hamlet of Lyalta in 2005. In that time, the Lakes of Muirfield has faced more than it’s share of challenges, but we can now boast a vibrant, growing, and beautiful community that was well worth it. Want to learn more?
